Transactional Attorney

Shannon & Wright LLP is actively seeking a Transactional Attorney to support our Business, Real Estate, and Tax practices conducting sophisticated business and real estate transactions. This position can be based out of our Alexandria or Leesburg office.

Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of relevant experience in such areas as: drafting and negotiating various agreements (asset purchase and sale, shareholder, operating, executive compensation, non-compete, etc.), stock purchase and recapitalizations, M&A transactions, and all types of real estate transactions. Candidates should have experience strategically advising clients, identifying and minimizing potential risks. Candidates must be barred in Virginia (MD and DC a plus).

The position will entail working with partners on all aspects of legal matters with direct client interaction representing a diverse group of reputable and well-established individual and corporate clients. Successful candidates will have excellent writing, research, and communication skills.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work closely and support Partners’ matters representing clients in a wide range of transactional needs
  • Communicate and update clients as needed throughout representation
  • Meet with new clients to assess their needs, identify their goals, and determine the best course forward in satisfying those needs
  • Ensure timely entry of time and billing details daily and in line with the firm best practices
  • Work with Firm Administrator and the Managing Partner to support the goals of the firm
  • Ensure all actions are consistent with best practices for attorneys including the ethical and professional standards of the Virginia State Bar and other applicable bars

Ideal Candidates will:

  • Have active Virginia State Bar Membership in good standing
  • Have minimum of 5 years corporate and/or transactional experience
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of commercial law knowledge

Litigation Attorney

Shannon & Wright LLP is actively seeking a civil and commercial litigation attorney who will serve as a pivotal member within our litigation and real estate practice. S&W represents a diverse group of reputable individuals and corporate clients through various types of business transactions along with complex dispute resolution management.

Attorneys should have significant experience in all aspects of litigation including drafting pleadings, discovery, briefs and motions, taking and defending depositions, as well as court appearances and trial work; this includes representing clients as second chair in Circuit Court and Appellate level cases, and lead counsel in General District Court matters. Core responsibilities include independently manage and perform complex civil litigation procedures to caseload from client intake to closing file as assigned.

Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 5 years of direct civil and commercial litigation experience along with excellent writing, research, analytical, and communication skills.

Litigation Paralegal

Shannon & Wright LLP is seeking an experienced full-time Litigation Paralegal to provide support services to attorneys in the areas of civil litigation, real estate and land use, as well as general business transactions in our Old Town Alexandria office. Candidates should have excellent time management and organizational skills, and advanced technology and document production skills, including proficiency in legal software, document management systems, and complex document preparation.

Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in civil litigation.

As a Litigation Paralegal, you will ensure the efficient and timely workflows of attorney and client needs. The position entails direct client interaction and requires professional communication skills, both verbal and written. Responsibilities include proactively coordinating and completing pre-trial and trial assistance for General District Court, Circuit Court, and Appellate Courts at both federal and state levels.

The ideal candidate is a versatile team player who thrives in a busy, professional environment, who can effectively organize and prioritize tasks. Primary Responsibilities

  • Drafts legal documents, including pleadings, motions, affidavits, and discovery requests;
  • Processes online filings with the courts;
  • Closely monitors the status of cases and calendars case deadlines and hearings;
  • Organizes, maintains, and retrieves case files, including exhibits, evidence, pleadings, and deposition transcripts;
  • Manages all phases of document production, including discovery preparation and review;
  • Prepares documents for depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials, including assembling exhibits and organizing case files;
  • Coordinating various case needs with outside vendors;
  • Conducts legal research;
  • Provides trial and hearing support, including preparing trial binders, managing exhibits, and assisting attorneys during proceedings.
  • Adheres to firm policies and procedures related to best practices related to case management and daily timekeeping;
  • Meets with attorneys, clients, and other professionals;
  • Performs additional duties as assigned to support the firm’s litigation practice.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal research tools (experience with the programs Clio and NetDocuments experience are a plus);
  • Advanced proficiency in preparing, editing, organizing, bookmarking, Bates stamping, redacting, and converting PDF files;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and professionally;
  • Thorough understanding of civil litigation procedures, court rules, legal terminology, and research methodologies research methods;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a client-service orientation and the ability to build rapport with attorneys, clients, and staff;
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting demands;
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving;
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment;
  • Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality and exercising sound professional judgment.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of five years of litigation paralegal experience in private practice

Hours:
