Michael Coogen is senior counsel with Shannon & Wright and has over 20 years of comprehensive legal experience serving clients throughout Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. His practice is focused on real estate, civil litigation, and business transactions.
Michael’s real estate practice encompasses all stages of commercial and residential real estate transactions, residential and commercial landlord-tenant, construction, common interest associations, title, zoning, land use issues, and the associated disputes that arise with them.
His broad pre-trial and court experience representing property and business owners, spans civil jury and bench trials in the state, federal, appellate jurisdictions, and the alternative arbitration and mediation proceedings.
Michael’s business practice includes entity formation and structuring, drafting and negotiating corporate governing and operating documents, purchase and sale contracts, and leases, and other commercial transactional documents. He also drafts and negotiates complex business contracts, including public subcontracts with prime contractors, financing, software-as-a-service and cloud service agreements, and propriety vendor non-disclosures.
He is admitted to practice in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia as well as the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of Virginia, District of Maryland, and the District of Columbia; the United States Bankruptcy Courts for those districts; and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
